Issues and Risks for Multiple Effects

Green screen-This is a visual effect that we are going to use.We are using this to show the view of London at night time. Since our character will be walking during the night, we want to show the lights flashing and revealing the background location of God's Own Junkyard. We're using a green screen to make this look more realistic for the audience to watch. We want to create a dark atmosphere which will resemble the chances of something bad likely to happen. We want to show London as our main location, as this is one of the most well known cities in the world, which will then engage the audience.
The risk assesment for this will be; to be careful you don't hurt yourself as you have a chance of tripping over the green screen sheet. Therefore, we will tape the sheet down with black tape to prevent the chances of our actress tripping over.
The green screen we are using is the one in our School Media Department. We will ask permission from our Teachers to use this. As we have used the green screen before, we have experience on how to use it and therefore will not waste any time in doing practicing shots or learning how to use it.
"Clearly identify who has control of the premises, location and facilities;", we will be stating this to the Media Department who will have control of the premises, location and facilities.
"Work is carried out in line with legal requirements and the production company's policy and procedures;".This is what we will follow. As we have been given the legal requirements and what we have to film. Therefore, we will then follow what we've been given. We are allowed to film with a green screen as this is a visual affect which is a featute in our unit.

Holograms - This is a special effect that were going to use. I think this will be an effect that will be exciting to use. We are going to use a hologram to show that our character has gained superpowers while taking the drug. There may have been bad side effects. However, this will then be overshadowed by her superpowers. This effect shows when she looks at someone the information of  that person will then appear. Therefore, she can then receive information about someone by looking at them, so she can then easily make judgements. This will then engage the audience as we're showing an element of fantasy.
The Hologram will be created on a computer software where we will use Adobe Flash to create a moving image of the hologram where her eyes portray advanced futuristic technology.
The purpose of using the Hologram for our work is to make our work much more creative, original and engaging. As this is a superpower we are trying to show that our character has futuristic elements from the pill which creates tension and appeals to drawing them in.

The aesthetics that will be used is to create work that shows our character gaining supernatural powers, after she takes the pill she's given by an unknown man.

TV Programme Plan

As mentioned on this slide, we will be airing our TV programme on Sky living as there area lot of crime dramas that air on there also and this is a similar genre to what type of programme we are producing. In this generation a lot of people are now watching shows and films on Netflix which we will also be allowing Netflix to release our show on their site as this will get a lot of views.
Our TV Show The Pill will air on Friday 13th July 2018 on Sky Living at 20:00 BST where a lot of viewers will tune in on live TV or watch VOD.

VIABILITY For Visual and Special Effects

In this post that I have created in Final Cut Pro, I have discussed the viability for are future production video. Before filming we need to ask permission to film at the location where we will begin thinking about are health and safety considerations for both the cast and crew which I have spoken about in the video on how we want to enable filming our Short TV scenes without any harm or dangerous encounters.
I have also mentioned about any risks that could possibly happen and spoke about the skills required and cost for special and visual effects.

Feasibility:
The special effect of the rubber weapon stick will be feasible for us as we can easily buy it online or at a costume store. Secondly, the product is cheap and safe to use which will be really useful to use against our actress to display the stunt of her being hit. In addition, it fits the purpose very well and is an appropriate prop to use to illustrate our special effects. For our hallucination, this will be created whilst we are editing, therefore will not cost anything other than using the software Final Cut Pro which is already downloaded and our group has used it several times.

Aesthetics:
The rubber weapon looks like a wooden stick but is coated over to look like something it is not. This is exciting to use as as it will create tension for the audience watching thinking the character will be hit for real. What they are unaware of it she will not actually be getting hurt at all because the prop is made from rubber. This prop creates an uneasy mood as the audience watch the antagonist holding it and following the protagonist who is a young innocent person. The aesthetics of the weapon is viable as it is not realistic in production but is according to the audiences vision. The hallucinations aesthetics will portray a ghost, double effect to convey the unfocused feeling she is physically going through. By using the opacity tool in Final Cut Pro, this creates viability for our production to illustrate her hallucinations around her.

Fitness For Purpose:
The makeup we will use at the beginning of the short film fits the purpose of displaying how young and vulnerable our actress is as she applies it on. It also represents the fact she is getting ready for a party and makes it clear to the audience what is happening straight away and who is unlikable. The purpose of the fake weapon is to illustrate tensions for the protagonist about to be seriously hurt. It makes them weary of the situation they are witnessing and the purpose is to show the antagonist wants to hurt Amina. For visual effects, using the opacity tool and spinning the camera round, shows that Amina is affected by the drug she was forced to take by the antagonist. Therefore, we used the location God's Own Junkyard to portray these effects as the sign lights make her surroundings look heightened and unfocused. This represents the drugs side effects.

Special Effects and Visual Effects Treatment

Sugar bottle
This is a special effect that were going to use. This will be used in the scene where our
character is out in public, and then passes out as she gets a bottle smashed by an unknown man. We will then use a fake glass bottle, as we will fill it up with sugar which will make it look much more realistic then. This will then create suspense as the audience are unaware of why he done this. Also what really stands out is that we don't know his identity. The audience will then immediately look at him as an antagonist character, and they will then sympathise for what happened to her as this will then resemble innocence as she done nothing wrong. This will then also show violence being used, which is an serious topic were addressing.

Green screen
This is a visual effect that were going to use. Were going to use this to show the view of London at night time. Since our character will then be walking during then night, as we will want to show the lights flashing then. Were going to use a green screen to make this look more realistic for the audience to watch. We're trying to make a dark atmosphere which will resemble the chances of something bad likely to happen. This is what were trying to show. We want to put London as our main location, as this is one of the most well known cities in the world, which will then engage the viewers into watching .

Hallucinations

This is an visual affect that were going to use. Were going to use this to show how the drug is affecting her. We will show the side affects, as were going to show how everything that's surrounded by her, how everything will begin to get slower then, and then get blurred out then. This will then make the audience sympathise for her in the situation that she's in . This is because she's away from reality , and stuck in her own world. Which symbolises that no one can help her. Were going to use this visual effect because I feel like we can make a much more vivid scene for the audience to remember, because this scene will show the development of the character.

Holograms-
This is a special effect that were going to use. I think this will be a special effect that will be exciting to use. Were going to use a hologram  to show that our character has gained superpowers while taking the drug. There may have been bad side effects. However, this will then be overshadowed by her superpowers. Were going to show when she looks at someone the information that person will then appear. Therefore, she can then receive information about someone , by looking at them, so she can then easily make judgements then. This will then engage the audience, as were showing an element of fantasy.

Shooting Script

Recce

Recce

Setting- Were going to film in Walthamstow, this is where we want to set our programme that were going to film. Since it's quite far away, we feel like this will be more of a challenge as were being creative by thinking outside of the box.
Image result for walthamstow

Location- Were planning to film in god's own junkyard, this is suitable to what were filming, this is because there's enough space for us to film. Also this is a very colourful place, as there a range of different bright colours which are used to make this look more appealing. This is what's needed because when our character Dylan hallucinates, he will then be in an fantasy in which he will see different bright colours, which will then engage the audience more then. This will also be an area to film which can be easy to edit , as we can blur , and we can also decrease the speed of the video, and with the bright colours used, this will then look more like a hallucination then. There's also enough space that can be used to bring a group of people for recording, which is benefited as we can get more detail out of filming then.

Backup location

Setting- At Chadwell Heath , which is much closer to us which means that this is an attachment area.

Location- At the park because there's rides in the park which have a range of different colours, and there's also bright colours which are shown in the park . Bright colours can be edited as being blurred which can also resemble hallucinations, which will then engage the audience then, as this will then look realistic then. This is beneficial for a backup because this is much closer to where we live, which will then mean less travelling then, which will make it easier for us as a group to meet up so we can film earlier then. This also means we have more time to film then. Therefore, this will then be more convenient for us, which is an advantage.

Setting - Dilly's House  (Chadwell Heath)

Location - Our location is set in Dilly's room (Me) as we show at the beginning of the video that Amina is getting ready for the party and is shown putting on her makeup and looking in the mirror. We will also show the location of where Amina is by showing aspects of her room. Dilly's room is great to use as she has lots of bright lights in her room that will foreshadow the bright lights she sees at God's Own Junkyard. We will use Focus Pull a lot to bring in the lights as it represents the hallucination she will experience later on in the night after she has the pill. The lighting in her room is well lit and shows the time of day it is which is mid evening as she is still getting ready for the party.

Budget for Special Effects

Travel

Since the place were going to film in his quite far since God' Own Junkyard is in Walthamstow, which is one and a half hour away. Therefore were going to use the Train to get there. And since were going to have our Oyster Cards with us, were most likely going to top up. Therefore were going to bring £5 minimum to top up. We also hope to have money saved , so we can top up again on our journey back, without any worries.

Food and Drink

Were also going to spend money on food and drink. Before we film, we may spend money and go to the corner shop, and spend money on drinks and snacks. So then we won't feel hungry or thirsty while were filming. Were gonna carefully decide how much money were going to spend on food and drink, because we will want some money saved as we might go out to a restaurant afterwards, as this is a new area we haven't been to, so we want to explore then.

Special effects

We will need to decide how much money were going to spend on special effects, which will be used to help make our film much more realistic. Were going to spend money  stunt props such as a bat or a knife.

The special effects that we can also use is a fake glass bottle which can be made out of sugar, this is because our character get's smashed with a glass bottle before she gets kidnapped. We want  to use a fake glass bottle. This will then make the audience sympathise for the girl, because  she is getting abused as she is resembled as innocent .

A hologram can then be used as as when she takes the pill she can see things, as she can see information about other people, and she gets more clever. This is one of her supernatural powers that were showing, which will then engage the audience then. This is because were showing the character is a superior character, at such a young age. We are also mixing real life with fantasy as well which is a good bond, which will get the audience watching.

A mechanical prop that we can use is a camera as we can then show the digital aspects which will then resemble more of a fantasy as we can then show different colours which are blurred.
The visual effects that were going to use will not affect our budget as we will then use a green screen that we have in our school,  which  will then be free. This will be an advantage, as we are going to show the girl in a city when lights on, as were trying to create a more dark atmosphere, with minimum brightness that's being shown.

Audience Trend

On of the shows that have helped us develop our ideas are Stranger things. This is because this is also a show that mixes fantasy with real life, and there's hallucinations which is what were trying to show in our film. Also some of the character that are shown in Stranger Things are teenagers who  associate with alcohol, drugs , and smoking whether they're peer pressured or in a party. This resembles our film because our characters are teenagers, who experiment in the same things, and are developing their understanding as well. Also there's hallucinations that are shown in Stranger Things when experimenting, which is what were trying to show in our film.

This is the example of a scene in Stranger Things which has helped us develop our idea. This is because in this scene Will is having a seizure, which then makes him shake uncontrollably. Everything then seems to be more blurred, as if he was hallucinating. This also shows isolation as he may feel like he's by himself, and no one is here to help him This then relates more to our idea because our character takes a pill and then  begins to experience blurred vision, hallucinations, as well as the feeling of being isolated as if there's no one to help her. This is why Stranger Things has played such a strong role in developing our main idea.

There's also an engima that's shown on how Will is having an episode, as we don't exactly know what has caused him to feel that way. We know he's been traumatized when he saw the monster. However, we don't know the reason why he's still having episodes and these sorts of side affects , as we don't know why they're not going away.

This will then relate to our show because our character is experiencing different side affects while taking the pill. However, these side affects are lasting much more longer and are more dangerous. As the character then gets supernatural powers, and there's an enigma created because we don't know how this pill has made her receive this. Also, this can be dangerous because her vision will then become more blurred then, which can cause something harmful occurring.

Also Black Mirror also plays a role in how this has helped us develop our idea. This is because in the first episode a lady got kidnapped, and she will only escape if the prime minister had sex with a pig. This shows an example of black mailing someone to due what they don't want to. As the prime minister is peer pressured, and may feel embarrassed.

Our idea is not as extreme as this. However, this does involve around our character that is taking a pill that she is not aware of, because this will benefit someone else. The same way if the prime minister had sex with a pig will benefit the kidnapper as he will laugh at him. This is how this has helped us with discussing our idea's.

13 Reasons Why is also a show that we've got some ideas from, this is because this involves around teenagers who are going through different situations and have participated in drugs alcohol, and smoking which had an major impact on Hannah committing suicide as she was raped by someone who was the under the influence . Were not going to make our show that extreme. However, were trying to show how being under the influence can lead to bad things occurring.
We've also showing illegal drugs that are being used. The pills that were going to use are illegal because they are still to be tested , and you don't know the side effects that will then occur. This is similar to Narcos were cocaine an illegal drug is being sold for money.

This is an example of peer pressure because as you can that Clay doesn't want to drink with the. However they threaten to beat him up if he doesn't , which will then made him feel like he has to drink in order to fit in.

This has then helped us develop our idea in our show. This is peer pressure is a topic that teenagers go through. Our character was peer pressured into taking a drug which she didn't want to take. This then shows a much more relatable experience for the audience as there's many teenagers watching that feel like they have to try and fit in, and participate in dangerous stuff.

Riverdale is also a show which has helped us with developing our idea. Because there's a scene in Riverdale when they're taking drugs, and then the major finds out and they get in trouble. Therefore, as they're punishment they will have to do community service then. This is similar towards our show, which will involve characters participating in drugs. However , no one will get caught. This will then lead to one of the characters gaining supernatural powers then.
We have also used Dynasty as one of the shows that have helped us develop our ideas. This is because there's this one scene where Fallon passes out by Chlorine because of her Dad's wife's sister as there's this  feud going on with the family. This relates to our idea because our main character gets a pill shoved down by a stranger which makes her pass out. She then ends up into a abandoned room, as she's isolated by everyone, which resembles some elements of being kidnapped, with the man who made her pass out.

We will show this on E4 because this is a well known show in the UK which is what the location is based in.

This show can also be shown on Netflix, because this is a show which attracts an audience on a global scale, which will mean a higher chance of increase in viewers then.

Visual Effects vs Special Effects

Visual effects and Special effects are two different things in the media industry and are often confused that they are the same. Visual effects are techniques that take place during the editing stage of production where camera footage has been manipulated due to the effects used in the editing process to make it look perfect to the audience. However, Special effects happen at the location whilst being filmed such as using props and makeup which create dramatising effects. This is additional to the theme of the media product being created.

The techniques used in Visual effects are:
- Digital Composition
- Blue Screen/Green Screen
- Chromakey
- CGI (Computer Generated Images)
- Mattes
- Morphing
- Rotoscoping
- 3D Graphics

Digital Composition: This is a technique process of digitally assembling multiple images over to make a final image. This is done sometimes using blue screen or green screen. The types of media products this has been used on are print, motion pictures or screen display. An example of how this is used in a film is in Bridge to Terabithia where towards the end of the scene, they show a fantasy world for the background where they had layered images together to create a whole different dimension. This is shown at 1:48 minutes.

Blue Screen & Green Screen: These are both used for the background of the film or TV scene and can replace it with a new background that has been digitally added. The only difference between the two screens is the colour. In some circumstances, if the actors clothing is the same colour as the screen, it will get cropped out or replaced with another image when it comes to the editing stage. A Chroma Key is used for when using green/blue screens. Also, for Bridge to Terabithia, green screen was used to add the image of the fantasy world around the two characters. The purpose and effect of using the green screen was to portray the children's imagination of Terabithia.

Chroma Key: This is used for combining two frames or images by replacing the colour in one frame with that from another frame. In other words it is used to place subjects in front of the projected background. Here is an example of a marketing trailer that used green screens and Chroma keys. An example of this used in a TV show is Ugly Betty where they had used chroma key to portray the fake city of New York and Betty's house.

Computer Generated Image (CGI): This is a field of 3D Graphics to Special effects. It is a creation of still or animated visual content with imaging software. It is used in movies, TV, Video Game Art, Commercials and Animation etc. In movies such as Captain America they portray his body image as Anorexic at first to show how he develops his image when he becomes a superhero. The CGI perceives an illusion of what his body looks like and make it a lot smaller than he looks.

Mattes: This is a painted glass frame that is used as a landscape or portrait in movie and TV. An example of this is that it has been used to manipulate several people in film such as in Star Wars they used it to create an army of Storm Troopers. This illustrates in the movie that there is a large army of Storm Troopers that all look very identical and impacts the audience  by making them think that there realistically is a huge army.

Morphing: This is used in motion pictures and animations that change one image or shape through a seamless transition such as Twilight.  This can scan the details in an actors face and can be changed and manipulated through technology. In the movie Twilight, Jacobs face and body transforms into a wolf, this is an example of morphing at 1:10.

Rotoscoping: This an animation technique where they use to trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame to produce a realistic action. An example of where this has been used is in a music video for BTS where they used sketch animations to introduce the group. The sketches portray their choreography.

3D Graphics: 3D software is used to give a more dynamic feel to the image/scene being captured. An example where 3D graphics was created was in the movie 2012 where the ground would look like it was collapsing and all the vehicles and trees were crumbling down. The 3D graphics would make it look more realistic.

The techinques used in Special effects are:
- Mechanical Props
- Stunt Props
- MakeUp
- Pyrotechnics

Mechanical Props: This is an operated device used in films to create a special effect within the production. This could be a high tech device such as a laser pen or watch or a real life example used in movies are fake animals used in Jaws and life of Pi where they make the animals look real.

Stunt Props: In films and televisions, stunt props are used to create dramatic scenes in fights. There are fake props that are used when they use material such as sugar glass and Bansa wood where the glass or wood can breaks very easily because it is brittle. Examples of where these materials are used are when glass bottles are involved or chairs and they are thrown across the room and have broken easily.

MakeUp: This is used to make a person look completely different to fit the character they are trying to portray. For an example, in the movie Edward Scissorhands the makeup artists had created a look for Johnny Depp where he displayed many cuts on this face created by makeup. This created the illusion that he actually had several cuts on his face and displayed quite dark and gothic.

Pyrotechnics: This is a special effect that involves illustrating firework displays that are bold and are a brilliant performance of a specified skill, however this can be quite hazardous. This is used in several movies. An example of where this is used in a real life media text is in a movie called the Lizzie McGuire Movie.

Evidence of Visual Effects

I have recorded footage that evidently shows what I did in my editing post production stage. When editing this specific scene in Final Cut ...
